A Journey Through Another World Wiki

Granvault Lowain (グランヴァルト・ルーウェン)?, or Vault (ヴァルト)? for short, is a high-ranking knight in Etelldia, bearing the title of "Second Captain of the Shireen Branch of the Knights of Guadia".

In the anime adaptation, he is voiced by Kazuki Ura (浦 和希)?, a Japanese voice actor. In the English dub, he is voiced by renowned American voice actor Monty Thompson.[1]

Background[]

In Ch. 6WN / Ch. 2Manga / Ep. 1Anime, a knight greets Takumi Kayano, Alan, and Elena when they arrive for the first time at the gates of Shireen from the Forest of Gaia, and asks for their ID cards. Unable to produce any IDs (claiming they came from a remote village that did not issue IDs), they are then subjected to a criminal background check through a crystal; upon passing the check, they are given temporary IDs and leave towards the town's Adventurer's Guild.

In Ch. 10WN / Ch. 3Manga / Ep. 1Anime, the same knight appears at the Adventurer's Guild just after Alan and Elena defeated an unruly adventurer, Dominic. The knight introduces himself as Granvault Lowain and claims that, had he arrived earlier, he would have helped defuse the incident with Dominic. Upon Vault learning from Takumi that he found the twins abandoned at the Forest of Gaia, guild receptionist Luna reveals that a few days ago, a group of slave traders from the kingdom of Algo were attacked by monsters while traversing said forest towards Shireen; it is possible that the twins were left there as baits to distract the monsters while the traders made its escape. Although Takumi floats the theory of Alan and Elena being slaves somehow, Vault instead suggests they may be orphans; although he does not rule out the possibility of turning them over to an orphanage, upon seeing them cry pleading Taku to not abandon them (after he yelled loud back during the Dominic incident), instead he uses his knighthood to vouch Takumi to become their guardian. He later offers Takumi to join him on an expedition organized by the Guild Master to thin out the population of monsters at the Forest of Gaia, but Takumi is unsure about it (claiming he is still an F-rank adventurer while the expedition is an A-rank).

Appearance[]

In the anime, Granvault is shown to have red hair and eyes. On top of a black shirt, he wears a large white cape or robe which is held on front by at least one golden clasp.[2]

Personality[]

Vault tends to be rather too hasty in carrying out certain actions or decisions (put in words by Issac Risner, "acting purely on instincts") and often gets reprimanded by Issac for this, as evidenced in Ch. 9Manga / Ep. 3Anime when Vault tries to quickly grab slimy rock moss (without thinking about how direct contact with it can cause skin irritation) and quickly gets stopped by Takumi and Issac.

Abilities[]

Vault can imbue his sword with magic. In Ch. 11Manga, during the battle against an evil viper deep in the Forest of Gaia, he uses Fire Magic to turn his sword into a flame sword.

Trivia[]

  • It is suspected that Vault could have some skin ailment (like athlete's foot, as thought by Takumi) based on Issac's assertion in Ch. 23WN / Ch. 9Manga / Ep. 3Anime about how much he complains about the unavailability of anti-itch medicine (which is made primarily out of slimy rock moss) in Shireen shops.
  • Vault insists he is only into girls, in spite of Third Division member Sagesse Clantz claiming to be in love with him in Ch. 30WN / Ch. 12Manga / Ep. 4Anime.
